Baykar and EDGE Group have commenced integration activities for the Desert Sting 16 precision-guided munition into the Bayraktar TB2 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.
The integration process is anticipated to conclude by the end of the year, followed by the incorporation of other payloads onto additional Baykar platforms.
Selçuk Bayraktar, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Baykar, commented on the integration, stating, "The integration of DESERT STING 16 and other EDGE weapons and systems will be options in our UAV payload offers. Our strategic alliance agreement with EDGE, an international player in advanced technology, will provide our customer base with choices."
The DESERT STING ammunition family from EDGE Group includes precision-guided munitions such as the Desert Sting 9, Desert Sting 16, and Desert Sting 25 guided bombs. Laser-guided Desert Sting bombs share a similar operating principle with the Roketsan MAM Family, utilized by Turkish UCAVs. Roketsan's MAM-C, MAM-L, and/or MAM-T ammunition are currently in use by over 30 countries in their UAVs.
DESERT STING 16 utilizes inertial guidance augmented by a global navigation satellite system (GNSS). A semi-active laser (SAL) seeker configuration further improves accuracy performance against designated targets. The ammunition has a 15 km maximum range if released from a 30,000 feet altitude with a 3m CEP.
The Bayraktar TB2 tactical drone, known for its medium-altitude, long-endurance capabilities, excels in surveillance, reconnaissance, and armed attack missions.
