South Korean shipbuilder, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, has announced securing a contract worth $463 million in collaboration with a local shipyard in Peru to construct four warships by 2029.
In a statement issued by HD Hyundai Heavy, it was revealed that Peru's state-owned shipbuilder, SIMA Peru SA, has placed an order for the joint production of one 3,400-ton frigate, one 2,200-ton offshore patrol vessel, and two 1,500-ton landing ships for the Peruvian Navy at its shipyard.
Additionally, HD Hyundai Heavy disclosed its intention to participate in an upcoming tender organized by the Peruvian Navy, aiming to secure a project involving the construction of five frigates, four OPVs, and two landing craft.
HD Hyundai Heavy is a subsidiary of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), alongside HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. Formerly known as Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings, HD Hyundai maintains HD KSOE as a subsidiary within its corporate structure.
South Korea has been actively expanding its defense industry exports, with estimates suggesting that the value of export contracts in this sector has surpassed $30 billion following the Ukraine-Russia War.
