Indonesia and Canada held their first-ever defense dialogue, the Indonesia-Canada Defense Dialogue (ICDD), hosted by the Ministry of Defense of Indonesia at the Borobudur Hotel in Jakarta on April 22 and 23, 2024.

The Indonesian delegation was led by Major General TNI Bambang Trisnohadi, Director General of Defense Strategy, while the Canadian side was led by Major General Gregory Smith, Director General of International Security at the Canadian Department of Defense.

The dialogue aimed to deepen bilateral defense relations and address key security priorities in the region. Major General Trisnohadi emphasized the common vision of enhancing regional security and strengthening friendship between the two nations.

"This dialogue is a forum for the Canadian and Indonesian Ministries of Defense to strengthen bilateral defense relations and discuss shared priorities to improve regional security. Strong partnerships and cooperation are critical to strengthening our collective resilience, and therefore we greatly appreciate every opportunity to work together with Indonesia to maintain peace and maintain global order," said Major General Gregory Smith.
