GA-ASI Wins $95M for Smart Sensor ISR Prototype Development

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) secured a contract worth $94.8 million from the Army Contracting Command on April 30, 2024.

The contract is allocated for the research, development, test, and evaluation of Autonomy and Artificial Intelligence (AI) integrated into the Smart Sensor Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) prototype. The project is slated for completion by March 31, 2026.

Under the purview of the Chief Digital AI Office (CDAO), the Smart Sensor System is envisioned as a platform-agnostic AI and autonomy solution designed to facilitate autonomous surveillance and reconnaissance operations, particularly in contested environments. Additionally, it aims to establish seamless communication capabilities with other platforms, enhancing overall operational efficiency.

Notably, the company last year supported a 90-day deployment for the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), where the Smart Sensor system showcased its efficacy in a Maritime Operational Environment.
