Rheinmetall has secured the largest order in its history, involving logistic vehicles, from the German Army (Bundeswehr), covering the delivery of up to 6,500 military trucks valued at up to €3.5 billion, including VAT.

Following the approval of funding by the budget committee of the Federal German Parliament on June 26, the contract with Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) was signed on July 1, by Annette Lehnigk-Emden, President of the BAAINBw, and the management of RMMV. The first call-off for over 610 vehicles, valued at €312 million including VAT, is imminent, with 250 trucks to be delivered in 2024. This initial order is primarily financed by the Bundeswehr’s special funds. Rheinmetall AG will book the order in the third quarter of 2024.

The framework contract enables the Bundeswehr to flexibly order additional quantities of the already introduced unprotected transportation vehicles, UTF 5t and UTF 15t trucks, over seven years. Additionally, a new vehicle category, the 4x4 UTF 3.5t, will be introduced under this contract, designed to share maximum identical parts with the existing UTF family.

Since July 2017, the Bundeswehr has ordered more than 6,000 HX vehicles, along with swap-body loader systems (WLS) and 70t tractor units, from Rheinmetall MAN. Over 75% of the value added at WLS and UTF is created in Germany. The HX vehicle family, designed for military use, offers mobility even in heavy terrain.
