Lockheed Martin delivered the first of five C-130J Super Hercules airlifters to New Zealand’s Defence Force on August 8 in Marietta, Georgia.
This upgrade exceeds the capabilities of the RNZAF’s C-130Hs, which have been vital for humanitarian and military operations in the Indo-Pacific.
The new C-130J-30 variants, operated by RNZAF’s 40 Squadron, are among the most advanced configurations of the Super Hercules. This upgrade follows New Zealand's 2020 decision to modernize its fleet through a U.S. Air Force Foreign Military Sale.
The C-130J is celebrated for its operational readiness, superior airdrop capabilities, and fuel efficiency, setting a high standard for tactical airlift missions.
Rod McLean, Lockheed Martin’s VP and GM of Air Mobility & Maritime Missions, Stated "the new C-130J fleet will enhance New Zealand’s allied alignment, reach, and performance for demanding airlift operations."
