Russia is set to unveil an all-new remotely controlled 122mm D-30 Self Propelled howitzer gun at the Army 2024 arms fair near Moscow starting August 12.
The self-propelled gun can be remotely controlled up to a distance of about 500m and is based on 122 mm D-30 gun on the MTS-15 tracked chassis. A sample of new weapon will be on display at the show and was snapped up by Russian Telegram users as the show is being set up.
The loading chamber is supplemented by an automatic loader adapted to the use of 4-round clips.
This configuration, unlike the standard D-30 and Gvozdika, minimizes the likelihood of the crew coming under counter-battery fire.
The remotely fired D-30 can achieve high gun efficiency, approaching 97 - 100%, if target detection and firing correction is performed by the Kitolov-2M UAS. It can hit 4 targets with the first 4 shells without the need to reload the gun.
The "Kitolov-2M" can scan for targets with a 1.35 km radius which matches the maxim range of 122mm shell fired from the D-30 howitzer.
