The China Coast Guard (CCG) reported a maritime incident involving a Philippine coast guard ship near Xianbin Jiao, in the disputed Spratly Islands, during a maritime enforcement operation early Monday morning.
The incident occurred at 3:24 a.m. when the Philippine ship allegedly ignored repeated warnings from the Chinese side and maneuvered dangerously toward the Chinese vessel. CCG spokesperson Gan Yu claimed the Philippine side was fully responsible.
Later, around 6 a.m., the same Philippine vessel entered the waters of Ren'ai Jiao, despite warnings. The CCG took enforcement actions in response. A video posted by the Chinese coast guard showed the collision.
Gan Yu criticized the Philippine coast guard's actions, saying they infringed on China's sovereignty and jeopardized regional peace. He urged the Philippines to cease such actions, warning of potential consequences.
The CCG reiterated China's claim of indisputable sovereignty over Xianbin Jiao and Ren'ai Jiao. China has lodged a formal protest with the Philippines regarding a prior incident.
The Philippines disputed China's account, stating two Philippine coast guard vessels encountered "unlawful and aggressive maneuvers" from Chinese vessels near Sabina Shoal, resulting in collisions and damage.
A Chinese coast guard ship collided with Cape Engano at 3:24 a.m., and later, Bagacay was rammed twice by a Chinese vessel, causing minor damage. China's maritime security claimed the Philippine vessel then entered waters near Second Thomas Shoal after being prevented from entering Sabina Shoal waters.
The incident occurred in the disputed Spratly Islands, claimed by China, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
