The U.S. State Department has approved potential Foreign Military Sales of AIM-120C and AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles to Romania and Norway, with estimated costs of $592 million and $405 million, respectively.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of these potential sales today.

The proposed sale to Romania includes up to 186 AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and four AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM guidance sections. Additional items include AIM-120 Captive Air Training Missiles (CATMs), missile containers, propulsion and control sections, telemetry kits, and warhead spares. Support elements encompass cryptographic devices, common munitions built-in-test equipment, computer test set adapter groups, spare parts, consumables, and contractor logistics support, among other components. The total estimated cost for this sale is $592 million. This sale aims to enhance Romania's self-defense capabilities and interoperability with NATO allies, contributing to regional stability.

The proposed sale to Norway involves 100 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles-Extended Range (AMRAAM-ER) and four AMRAAM AIM-120C-8 guidance sections. Non-MDE items include AMRAAM containers, spare parts, consumables, weapons software, and training equipment. The estimated cost of this sale is $405 million. The sale is intended to bolster Norway’s air defense capabilities, replacing older AMRAAM models with the more advanced AMRAAM-ER for use in the Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air Missile System (NASAMS). This sale is expected to enhance Norway's ability to address current and future threats without altering the regional military balance.

Both sales will be conducted with RTX Corporation, based in Tucson, AZ, as the principal contractor.
