Aselsan, a Turkish defense company, conducted a test of its TOLUN-IIR guided miniature bomb from a Bayraktar Akinci drone on September 17.
The TOLUN-IIR, equipped with an imaging infrared seeker head, was launched from the Akinci Flight Training and Test Center in Tekirdag on September 17. It struck its target, an armored personnel carrier, with precision from 20 kilometers away and at an altitude of 22,000 feet.
This showcases the effectiveness of the TOLUN-IIR's human-in-the-loop guidance system, allowing for real-time control and centimeter-level precision. The bomb's 80-kilometer range and two-way data link enable communication with the operations center, ensuring accurate targeting and updates .
The Bayraktar Akinci drone has demonstrated its capabilities in various firing tests, utilizing a range of national ammunition, including MAM-L, MAM-T, and TOLUN, among others. This successful integration enhances the drone's attack power and deterrence, solidifying its position in Turkey's defense strategy.
Notably, the TOLUN-IIR can be deployed from both fighter jets and UAVs, with the potential to engage up to eight targets simultaneously.
