The Iranian Navy announces the upcoming addition of the “Zagros” destroyer, aimed at enhancing intelligence and combat capabilities.
Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani revealed that the Navy’s fleet will soon include a new combat reconnaissance destroyer named “Zagros,” which combines combat and intelligence-gathering functions. This latest warship is equipped with a helicopter hangar and has been fully outfitted, awaiting approval to officially join the Navy’s fleet.
The Navy commander also provided updates on the Sahand destroyer, which was salvaged after sinking in Bandar Abbas in July. Rear Admiral Irani stated that the vessel is undergoing rapid preparations and will soon participate in a large-scale naval exercise before heading to the northern Indian Ocean to support maritime security. The Sahand, initially commissioned in December 2018, is equipped with anti-ship cruise missiles, electronic warfare systems, and a helicopter deck.
