Kongsberg to Equip Peruvian Navy’s New Frigate with Propeller Systems
Peruvian vessels will be based on HD HHI's HDF-3200 frigate design

Kongsberg Maritime has won a contract to supply controllable pitch propeller (CPP) systems for the Peruvian Navy’s first new multipurpose frigate under its fleet modernization program, scheduled for completion in 2029.

This contract, confirmed on November 5, will see Kongsberg Maritime providing a comprehensive propulsion package, including twin controllable pitch propellers, shaftlines, bearings, seals, and integrated control systems.

The Peruvian Navy's new frigate program, central to its modernization efforts, involves a collaboration with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) and SIMA Peru, the state-owned Peruvian shipbuilder.

The new vessels will be constructed in Peru, using HD HHI's HDF-3200 frigate design. Each frigate will have a displacement of 3,400 tonnes, a length of 127 meters, and a top speed of 26.5 knots. Designed for extended operational reach, the frigates will support long-range patrol missions with a range capacity of 6,000 nautical miles.
