Russia Presents New Aircraft Engine Models at Airshow China 2024

Rostec's United Engine Corporation is unveiling new aviation engines at Airshow China 2024, including a fifth-generation tactical aircraft engine and the AL-31FN model, marking their first international debut.

The centerpiece of UEC’s exhibition is a full-scale model of a newly developed operational-tactical aircraft engine. This engine is said to offer improvements in service life, fuel efficiency, and thrust, representing a significant upgrade over its predecessors. Rostec reports that the AL-31FN engine’s fifth series, with enhanced power capabilities, will enable expanded flight range and altitude performance.

In addition, UEC is presenting the SM-100 engine, designed for use in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and combat training aircraft. The SM-100 is part of Rostec’s expanding portfolio aimed at improving combat effectiveness while reducing engine life cycle costs, according to Vladimir Artyakov, Rostec’s First Deputy Director General.

Also on display at the UEC exhibit will be a model of the PD-35 high-thrust demonstrator engine. Featuring blades over three meters in diameter, this engine incorporates new materials and technologies to increase durability. Other exhibits include the hybrid VK-650V aircraft engine, which combines gas turbine and electric power sources, as well as models of engines like the VK-1600V, TV7-117ST-01, and RD-93MA.

The Airshow China 2024, held from November 12-17, is set to host 890 companies from 47 countries. Through this event, Russia aims to strengthen its presence in the aviation sector by showcasing advancements in engine technology to a global audience.
