The Chinese Navy's carrier-borne electronic warfare (EW) aircraft, the J-15D will debut at Airshow China 2024 starting next week in Zhuhai.
The aircraft is considered a direct competitor to the American F/A-18 Growler EW aircraft that rides on U.S. aircraft carriers providing EW support to the fleet and carrier-borne aircraft.
The J-15D is designed to disrupt and suppress enemy electronic systems, enhancing the effectiveness of an aircraft carrier's air wing in modern, information-driven naval warfare.
The PLA Navy's participation in the airshow marks the first time it will showcase active-service equipment, with highlights including the J-15D, the J-15T fighter jet, Z-20J shipborne helicopter, and Z-8C transport helicopter.
The Navy will also feature the first batch of female carrier pilots and demonstrate advanced maneuvers like reverse area landings and buddy refueling.
The J-15D, a twin-seat electronic warfare aircraft, is equipped with advanced systems for electronic disruption and suppression, boosting China's aircraft carrier groups, particularly in long-range operations. The J-15D made its public debut during formation training with the J-15T fighter on oct 9 2024, according to China Central Television (CCTV).
