Russian air defense systems have intercepted 32 drones targeting Moscow, marking one of the largest drone attacks reported since the start of the Ukraine conflict, Moscow’s mayor Serhiy Sobyanin said.
Attack drones were detected in Moscow’s Domodedovo, Ramenske, and Kolomna districts, and airport operations were delayed in response to the incident.
Moscow’s anti-aircraft defenses responded immediately, with missiles targeting the drones. Sobyanin confirmed that "32 drones flying to Moscow have been destroyed." Due to the attack, flights were temporarily halted under the "Carpet" plan at Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports, with similar restrictions later applied at Sheremetyevo Airport.
Local residents reported fires and posted videos on Telegram channels showing drones flying near the city, their destruction, and the aftermath of falling debris. The publication "Ostrozhno, Moscow" shared footage depicting drones over Moscow airspace and fragments falling to the ground.
Drone strikes within Russian territory have become frequent. Although Ukraine has not commented on this specific incident, its special services are often linked to similar operations targeting Russian regions. On the same night, additional drones attacked a military facility in Bryansk, with Russian authorities claiming that a total of 70 Ukrainian drones were intercepted across several regions, including the Moscow and Bryansk areas, as well as Oryol, Kaluga, Kursk, and Tula.
