Poland’s Ministry of National Defense has signed a €1 billion (PLN 4.3 billion) contract to acquire 80 Rosomak-L wheeled armored personnel carriers (APCs) to modernize the Polish Army.
The agreement was finalized on December 17 at the ministry’s headquarters in Warsaw, with Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Deputy Minister Paweł Bejda present.
The Rosomak-L is an upgraded version of the KTO Rosomak APC. Key modifications under the Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) program include a 60 cm longer hull, increased load-bearing capacity, a more powerful engine, and improved buoyancy with a floating version equipped with a breakwater. The enhancements also feature reinforced ballistic protection and an extended range due to larger fuel tanks.
The APCs will include the ZSSW-30 remote-controlled turret system, developed collaboratively by Huta Stalowa Wola and WB Electronics. This system is armed with a 30-mm Bushmaster Mk 44/S cannon, a 7.62-mm UKM-2000C machine gun, and a dual Spike-LR anti-tank missile launcher. Additional features include a laser rangefinder, thermal imaging cameras, and the SSP-1 Obra active protection system.
The vehicles are expected to be delivered between 2027 and 2028. The agreement also includes provisions for a logistics and training package.
The contract allows for flexibility, enabling the delivery of additional units if production capacity increases and the army’s needs grow. This year alone, Poland has reportedly ordered 138 Rosomak APCs, including 58 units in July.
