PT PAL Indonesia has completed maintenance and repair work on the KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda-367, a corvette-class warship, enabling it to deploy for a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission.
The vessel will replace its predecessor and continue the Indonesian Navy’s contribution to maintaining regional security.
The maintenance process covered hull cleaning and repainting, marine system repairs, propeller shaft maintenance, and the replacement of seals. These measures improve fuel efficiency, maneuverability, and operational reliability, particularly in environments such as the Suez Canal and open seas.
Repairs also included the anchor and chain systems, ensuring secure docking at strategic ports along the ship’s route to Lebanon. PT PAL’s engineers emphasized the importance of these upgrades for the ship’s technical and operational readiness, addressing factors such as extreme weather and complex maritime navigation.
"This maintenance aims to ensure that the KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda is in prime condition before starting its mission to Lebanon," said Navy Colonel (P) Widyo Sasongko, Head of the Information Service of Koarmada II.
The KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda-367 will follow a six-leg journey through Surabaya, Jakarta, Batam, Colombo, Salalah, and the Suez Canal before arriving in Beirut. Led by Lieutenant Colonel (P) Anugerah Annurullah, the ship will serve as part of the TNI Garuda Contingent XXVIII-P Maritime Task Force, replacing the outgoing XXVIII-O Task Force in early 2025.
