The U.S. Army has started testing the NGTV-H (Next Generation Tactical Vehicle-Hybrid), a tactical vehicle featuring a hybrid propulsion system.
Developed and manufactured by General Motors Defense, the vehicle is now in service with the 3rd Brigade of the 10th Mountain Division.
The tests are part of the ongoing Combined Resolve 25-01 exercises in Germany, where photos were released through the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) platform.
The vehicle, based on the Chevy Silverado SUV chassis, features a Duramax engine paired with an electric battery capable of delivering 300 kilowatt-hours of power. This hybrid design allows the vehicle to operate with low thermal and acoustic emissions and can serve as a power source for troops, reducing reliance on external batteries.
The NGTV-H is equipped with a 56-liter fuel tank, and its hybrid powertrain integrates technologies from General Motors’ electric vehicle programs, including the Hummer EV. The design also draws from the company’s previous work on the Chevy Colorado military vehicle.
Alongside the NGTV-H, various unmanned systems were also tested during the exercises, including the Anduril Ghost-X UAV, PDW C-100D, Skydio X2D quadcopter, SMET wheeled unmanned aerial vehicle, and the STEED electric cart.
The new vehicle can be transported by C-130 and C-17 aircraft or loaded onto helicopters like the CH-47 Chinook and MH-53 King Stallion, making it versatile for rapid deployment in different operational environments.
