The U.S. State Department has approved two major Foreign Military Sales to Egypt, worth $929 million, including AN/TPS-78 Long Range Radar systems and Fast Missile Craft modernization.
The first sale, valued at $304 million, involves the supply of AN/TPS-78 long-range radar systems, KIV-78 cryptographic devices, GPS devices with Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Modules (SAASM), and various support services. This radar technology will enhance Egypt’s ability to detect aerial threats, complementing its existing radar systems. The proposed sale is not expected to impact the regional military balance. Northrop Grumman Corporation will serve as the principal contractor for this deal.
The second sale, estimated at $625 million, focuses on the modernization of Egypt's four Fast Missile Craft. This includes the installation of the COMBATSS-21 combat management system, along with air and surface surveillance radars, electronic warfare systems, and other upgrades. Lockheed Martin and L3Harris will be the principal contractors for this project, which aims to enhance Egypt’s maritime defense capabilities.
Both sales, certified by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency and notified to Congress, are intended to improve Egypt’s ability to address current and future threats.
