A twin-seater Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, during a routine training sortie on February 6.
The aircraft reportedly suffered a system malfunction, forcing the pilots to eject using parachutes. While both pilots survived, one sustained injuries. The wreckage was seen engulfed in flames, with smoke rising from the debris.
The IAF confirmed the accident on X, stating, "A Mirage 2000 aircraft of the IAF crashed near Shivpuri (Gwalior), during a routine training sortie today, after encountering a system malfunction. Both the pilots ejected safely. An enquiry has been ordered by the IAF to ascertain the cause of the accident."
Initial reports suggest the crash may have resulted from a loss of control, though a Court of Inquiry will determine the exact cause. The crash comes months after a MiG-29 fighter jet crashed in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra in November 2024 due to a technical issue, with the pilot ejecting safely.
