The French General Directorate for Armaments (DGA) signed a seven-year framework agreement with KNDS France and Safran Electronics & Defense on December 30 to develop technologies for land-based robotics under the DROIDE program.
The agreement focuses on maturing key capabilities to enhance the role of terrestrial robotic platforms in military operations by 2030-2035. It aims to accelerate the use of remotely operated systems and expand their operational roles in complex land environments. A core component of the initiative is the development of a multi-mission robotic demonstrator designed to support dismounted troops, enhance combat effectiveness, and reduce risks for soldiers.
The framework also allows third-party partners to contribute innovative solutions, aligning with France’s Military Programming Law objectives for autonomous systems. The DROIDE initiative is expected to lay the groundwork for future robotic combat systems in the French armed forces.
