Russia launched 267 Shahed drones against Ukraine in the largest coordinated drone attack since the invasion began nearly three years ago, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Yuriy Ignat, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, said the drone barrage was a "record for a single attack." Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 138 drones, while 119 were neutralized by electronic warfare systems, he added.
Emergency services reported that three people were injured in the Odessa region, where a residential building was also damaged. A small number of drones breached Ukraine's defenses, though officials did not specify further.
President Zelensky condemned the attack, calling for increased support and expressing gratitude to air defense personnel who repel such attacks on a daily basis. Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense urged international partners to provide more air defense systems, stating, "Ukraine needs more air defense systems!"
Russia claimed it had downed 22 Ukrainian drones overnight across four regions. The Russian Defense Ministry said 16 drones were destroyed over the Oryol region, three over Bryansk, two over Ryazan, and one over Crimea.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones struck the Ryazan Oil Refinery, one of Russia's largest fuel-processing sites. The refinery, which has a capacity of over 340,000 barrels per day, suffered damage and fires. This marks the third attack on the facility this year, targeting a key supplier of aviation fuel for the Russian military.
The escalation comes as U.K. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer reaffirmed "ironclad support for Ukraine" ahead of a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
