Poland has signed a $300 million agreement with the U.S. to lease eight AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopters to train pilots and ground crews before the delivery of 96 AH-64E Apache Guardians starting in 2028.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz signed the leasing agreement on February 27 at Latkowo airport in Inowrocław. The ceremony included Deputy Minister of National Defense Paweł Bejda, U.S. representatives, and Boeing officials.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said the lease aims to prepare personnel for the new helicopters by providing early access to equipment and training. The AH-64D helicopters will be delivered to the 1st Land Forces Aviation Brigade, where pilot and support staff training will begin.
Poland’s $10 billion order for 96 AH-64E Apache helicopters, signed in August 2024, includes logistics, armament, simulators, and an offset agreement. Bejda said the offset will allow maintenance of Apache helicopters and other platforms like Leonardo and Black Hawk helicopters at facilities in Łódź and Dęblin.
Polish pilots and engineers have already undergone training in the U.S. under a 2023 agreement with the Air Force Inspectorate. Bejda also announced plans to sign a contract soon for the delivery of NBWP Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles.
Poland will become the second-largest operator of Apache helicopters after the U.S. when deliveries are completed between 2028 and 2032. The AH-64E helicopters are expected to enhance the Polish Army’s combat capabilities, including reconnaissance and target engagement.
