Poland Launches Artificial Intelligence Center to Boost Military Power

Poland has launched an Artificial Intelligence Implementation Center to transform its military capabilities, focusing on cyber defense, autonomous combat systems, and advanced intelligence analysis.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced the center on March 3 during a briefing in Legionowo, calling it a major step toward strengthening national security. The center will operate under the Cyberspace Defense Forces led by General Molenda and a team of cybersecurity and AI specialists.

“We are not just building cybersecurity—we want to stay ahead of our adversaries and become a leader in cutting-edge military technologies,” said Kosiniak-Kamysz. He revealed that Polish military networks face an attack every two hours, underscoring the urgent need for advanced AI solutions.

The AI Implementation Center will fast-track the development of military AI projects, collaborate with industry and research institutions, and evaluate commercial AI technologies for defense applications. According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, future military operations—from soldier training to battlefield management—will rely heavily on artificial intelligence.

Secretary of State Cezary Tomczyk highlighted Poland’s growing influence in the global AI sector, noting that Polish experts play key roles in top AI firms worldwide. “We want them to develop their skills here and contribute to modern technologies that protect our country,” he said.

The announcement comes as global attention on AI in defense grows. At a recent ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting in Malaysia, officials from Southeast Asian nations agreed to promote responsible AI use and address emerging risks tied to AI-driven military technology.

The Pentagon launched the AI Rapid Capabilities Cell (AI RCC) in December 2024 to speed up the use of AI in the U.S. Department of Defense. Working with the Defense Innovation Unit, it will run four projects to test AI for military operations and management, focusing on command and control, decision-making, software development, and cybersecurity. The AI RCC will also fund AI testing and provide $40 million to small businesses for new AI solutions.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has pledged to prioritize AI adoption for various military applications, including cybersecurity and weapons testing, and to modernize the Pentagon’s data infrastructure. His stance on continuing the Pentagon’s Replicator initiative, launched under President Joe Biden to deploy autonomous systems by 2025 to counter China, remains unclear.
