The U.S. Army has awarded Lockheed Martin a contract worth up to $4.94 billion to produce additional Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM), a surface-to-surface weapon designed to engage targets beyond 400 kilometers.

The contract allows the U.S. Army to procure additional PrSM units, increasing production capacity to meet demand.

Developed by Lockheed Martin, PrSM is designed to replace the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) and has a range exceeding 500 kilometers. It is compatible with the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), with two missiles per pod. The missile features an open systems architecture for adaptability and includes various guidance systems such as inertial navigation with GPS and an anti-radiation seeker with imaging infrared (IIR) for land-based anti-ship targeting. PrSM carries a high-explosive fragmentation warhead weighing approximately 200 pounds. The missile is 13 feet long and 17 inches in diameter.

The U.S. Army announced the delivery of the first PrSM batch in December 2023.

The company is utilizing digital tools, including augmented reality and advanced modeling, to enhance production efficiency, quality, and performance.
