The Minister of Public Works and Government Services, the Honourable Christian Paradis, and the Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, the Honourable Peter MacKay, today announced a contract award to DEW Engineering and Development ULC, of Ottawa, for Long Term Engineering and Support Services for the M113 family of vehicles. “Canadian expertise is unparalleled and this Government is using that talent to deliver the best equipment for our Canadian Forces,” said Minister Paradis. “Leveraging military procurement is just one of the ways we are creating high paying, long-term jobs for our tech and defence industries. It makes me proud to know that eight people have a secure income for at least the next four years”. The contract awarded to DEW Engineering and Development ULC consists of technical engineering and maintenance services, repair and overhaul services, the provision of spare parts, as well as the repair of battle-damaged vehicles, on an as-required basis, for the M113 family of vehicles. The contract, valued at C$29.4 million, covers the period from December 2009 to March 2013, and includes two one-year options. An estimated eight jobs will be maintained, for a minimum of four years. “This contract award reflects our government's determination to ensure that our men and women in uniform have what is necessary to do the job we ask of them," said Minister MacKay. "These vehicles are an important capability to our soldiers deployed to Afghanistan, providing them with added security and safety”.
