European missile manufacturer MBDA has entered into a partnership with an unnamed major French automaker to mass produce its latest missile, ‘One Way Effector.’

MBDA CEO Eric Beranger announced that his group would turn to one of the car manufacturers for help in the production of a new weapon, which was called the One Way Effector, according to a report in Le Journal du Dimanche.

This partnership should allow France to produce new long-range weapons capable of overcoming enemy defenses in large numbers.

MBDA plans to produce up to 1,000 new missiles per month, and more if necessary. In comparison, MBDA plants currently produce only about 40 Mistral MANPADS missiles per month.

Not much is known about the One Way Effector, it is a new development that is set to be presented for the first time at the Paris Air Show 2025, which starts on June 16.

The One Way Effector is a compromise between the need for quantity, efficiency and low cost. It is a response to the challenges faced by armed forces in high-intensity conflicts.

According to a press release from MBDA , the development of the One Way Effector is being carried out through an innovative production scheme in partnership with a drone manufacturer and civil industrial players, in particular from the automotive sector.

“It certainly has mass production technologies, which has not traditionally been characteristic of the missile industry, at least before the conflict in Ukraine. Today, this ability to respond quickly to increasing demand is becoming crucial,” Eric Beranger explains in response to what contribution is expected from the automaker.

The war in Ukraine has been a wake-up call for the French defense industry, to be able to rapidly scale up production of  consumables such as bombs, missiles, artillery shells and kamikaze drones.

Earlier this month, it became known that a large French automobile company had agreed to set up drone production lines in Ukraine for the needs of the armies of both countries. Later, it became known that this company is the auto giant Renault.
