The U.S. State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Italy involving Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and associated support, with an estimated value of $211 million.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the proposed sale on June 16, 2025.

Italy has requested thirty AIM-120D-3 AMRAAMs, forty AIM-120C-8 AMRAAMs, and two AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM guidance sections. The request also includes spare control sections, containers, consumables, software, documentation, training equipment, and engineering and logistical support.

The sale is expected to improve Italy’s air-to-air combat readiness and support interoperability with U.S. and NATO forces. Italy already operates AMRAAMs, and integration of the new systems is not expected to pose any challenges.

The principal contractor for the program is RTX Corporation, located in Tucson, Arizona.
