Denmark has taken delivery of first two armored personnel carriers (APCs) from Finnish defense manufacturer Patria.
The handover is part of Denmark’s broader plan to rebuild and modernize its armed forces, supported by the Acceleration Fund established earlier this year.
The new vehicles arrived Bornholm, where they will be used for training and education, Danish defense ministry said on September 1. Deliveries of the remaining 127 APCs will take place from next year onwards.
“The vehicle was purchased in a project collaboration with Finland, Sweden, Latvia and Germany and is being produced in Finland with several Nordic, including Danish, subcontractors. The rapid acquisition is the result of good and close Nordic cooperation, where joint Nordic vehicles provide a high degree of security of supply and the opportunity to support each other logistically," said Commander of the Land Division in FMI, Colonel Thomas Ø. Knudsen.
The Patria APC is a modular, multi-role vehicle designed for troop transport and combat support operations.
The Patria 6×6 armored personnel carrier weighs up to 24 tons, carries a crew of 2–3 plus 8–10 troops, and offers STANAG Level 2 protection with upgrades to Level 4. It is powered by a Scania DC09 diesel engine producing 294 kW, giving it a top speed of over 100 km/h on land, 8 km/h in water, and a range of about 700 km. The vehicle has an 8.5-ton payload capacity and can be fitted with weapon systems ranging from machine guns and 30 mm auto cannons to a 120 mm mortar turret.
