Saab has signed a contract worth about SEK 550 million (nearly $60M) to supply its Giraffe 4A radar systems and services to a country in Latin America.

The Giraffe 4A is a mobile Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar capable of both air surveillance and weapon locating. It offers ranges of up to 280 km for aerial targets, with some sources citing up to 400 km, and about 100 km for rocket, artillery, and mortar detection. The system provides 360-degree coverage, can be deployed in under 10 minutes by two operators, and is transportable by a C-130 aircraft.

Designed with Gallium Nitride components and counter-countermeasures, the radar can track large numbers of targets while resisting jamming and maintaining low probability of intercept.
