Israel’s Ministry of Defense announced that 1,152 Israeli soldiers have been killed since the Gaza conflict began on October 7, 2023.
According to the Families, Commemoration and Heritage Division, about 42 percent of those killed — 487 soldiers — were under the age of 21, while 141 were over 40. The figures include personnel from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Israel Police, Shin Bet, special operations forces, and readiness squads engaged in operations in Gaza, southern and northern Israel, Lebanon, and the West Bank.
The data also show the extensive human toll on Israeli families, with more than 6,500 relatives added to the national circle of bereavement. This includes 1,973 bereaved parents, 351 widows, 885 orphans, and 3,481 siblings who have lost family members since the start of the conflict.
In the past year alone, 262 additional soldiers were added to the list of fallen, bringing over 1,300 new family members into the bereaved community.
Aryeh Mualem, Deputy Director General and Head of the Families, Commemoration and Heritage Division, said the country is enduring “a heavy price” and that his department has been managing “the scope of over 20 years of work” in just two years.
On Thursday, Israeli forces launched air and artillery strikes across Gaza, injuring civilians. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that the death toll in Gaza has reached at least 67,200, with 169,890 people wounded since October 2023.
