The Norwegian government has placed an order for additional NASAMS air defence components from KONGSBERG to enhance the country’s ability to counter aerial threats.
The contract, valued at approximately NOK 1 billion (~$100 million), was announced on October 31.
NASAMS was jointly developed by KONGSBERG and the U.S. company Raytheon in the 1990s.
The new contract includes command posts, wheeled communication nodes, and updated radios. The current MRR radios will be replaced with KONGSBERG’s THOR Combat Net Radio, which offers greater capacity and more functionality. The upgrades are designed to improve mobility, enable faster relocation of command posts, and enhance survivability for air defence batteries.
The Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) has also procured additional long-lead components to support the rapid delivery of future NASAMS systems, in line with the country’s Long-Term Plan for the Defence Sector.
