Uralvagonzavod, a subsidiary of Russian state-owned Rostec, has delivered a new batch of TOS-1A Solntsepek heavy flamethrower systems to the Russian Army, now equipped with upgraded anti-drone protection.
The delivery coincides with Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Defense Troops Day.
Before shipment, the systems underwent field and acceptance trials confirming their reliability, quality, and compliance with technical standards. The tests assessed performance under varied conditions.
“These upgrades are based on combat experience,” said Dmitry Semizorov, Deputy General Director for Specialized Equipment at Uralvagonzavod. “We don’t just supply systems; we modernize them to enhance the TOS system’s effectiveness against modern threats.”
The new batch is based on the T-72 tank chassis and can fire thermobaric rockets covering areas up to 40,000 square meters. The anti-drone system was designed to counter the growing UAV threat.
A new version of the TOS system, built on the T-80 tank, is in final testing and will feature greater range, accuracy, and automation.
The TOS-1A Solntsepek continues to be used in Russian military operations against enemy fortifications, armored vehicles, and UAV control centers.
