Eurofighter to Receive New AI-Driven Electronic Warfare System under Helsing–Saab Contract

Helsing and Saab Germany have signed a contract valued in the three-digit million-Euro range to equip the Eurofighter with a new AI-driven electronic warfare system that combines Saab’s Arexis sensors with Helsing’s artificial intelligence software.

Under the agreement, Helsing will supply its AI-based Cirra software for integration into the Arexis suite over the next three years. The system is intended to support Eurofighter combat missions, including operations against modern air defence networks.

The Luftwaffe’s Eurofighter will first operate as a standalone capability. The system is expected to support wider data sharing across other German combat aircraft at a later stage.

Cirra uses deep learning to classify unknown air defence emitters and assess their intent. The software runs directly on the aircraft to allow real-time analysis in environments with unfamiliar or adaptive radar systems. According to Helsing, this is designed to support situational awareness and aircraft survivability.

Helsing has already integrated Cirra into a flying testbed and conducted company-owned test flights to reduce programme risk ahead of full integration.

Saab Germany and Helsing were selected in 2023 by the German Federal Ministry of Defence to equip 15 Luftwaffe Eurofighters with electronic warfare systems. With the conclusion of the contract and the concept phase completed, system integration will now move ahead with Airbus Defence and Space.
