The U.S. State Department has approved a possible $2.68 billion Foreign Military Sale of air strike weapons to Canada, according to a statement released by the Pentagon on Thursday.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) confirmed that the required certification was delivered to the U.S. Congress on December 4.
Canada has requested a large package of air-delivered munitions and support systems. The request includes up to 3,108 GBU-39 Small Diameter Bombs, 2,004 GBU-53 Small Diameter Bombs Increment II, 5,352 JDAM guidance sets, 3,414 BLU-111 500-pound general purpose bombs, 220 BLU-117 2,000-pound bombs, 146 I-2000 penetrator warheads, and over 1,000 additional practice bombs, inert weapons, and guided test vehicles.
The package also covers a wide range of fuzes, laser target detectors, training aids, test equipment, spare parts, publications, classified and unclassified software, and long-term logistics and technical support from the U.S. government and private contractors.
The Pentagon identified Boeing and RTX as the principal contractors for the proposed sale.
