Thales has introduced the prototype of Sonar 76Nano, a miniaturised acoustic detection system.
According to Thales, the sonar system can be deployed onboard a wider range of platforms, including uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs), thanks to its compact and modular design.
The system extends advanced underwater sensing capabilities beyond large naval vessels to UUVs, seabed monitoring systems, and traditional crewed platforms.
A key feature of Sonar 76Nano is its AI-enhanced acoustic detection capability.
Thales says the use of artificial intelligence accelerates target identification and decision-making with high precision, improving performance in complex underwater environments. The system is also digitally native, ensuring compatibility with existing defence infrastructure and strengthening interoperability across UK and NATO forces.
Sonar 76Nano is scheduled to make its official public debut on 17 December at a technology demonstrator event with the Royal Navy.
