Four NATO States Sign €330M Contract for Leopard 2 Active Protection Systems

Four European NATO countries have signed a €330 million multi-nation contract to equip their Leopard 2 A8 main battle tanks with active protection systems as part of a common survivability upgrade.

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems said in a recent statement that EuroTrophy GmbH and KNDS Deutschland had finalized the agreement to supply Trophy active protection systems for the Leopard 2 A8 programs of Lithuania, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Croatia. The contract includes system deliveries, spare parts, training, and long-term logistical support to sustain fleet availability over the tanks’ service life.

Under the agreement, Trophy will be integrated as part of the Leopard 2 A8’s standard configuration, allowing interoperability and commonality among the participating NATO forces. EuroTrophy, a European joint venture led by Rafael, will handle local integration, lifecycle support, and customer-specific services in line with European industrial requirements.

Developed by Israel-based Rafael, Trophy is designed to detect, track, and neutralize incoming anti-tank threats in real time while also providing situational awareness to armored crews. The system has been integrated on several Western armored platforms, including the Leopard 2, M1 Abrams, and Merkava main battle tanks, and has been selected for additional platforms such as South Korea’s K2 Black Panther. Adoption has also expanded to lighter armored vehicles, including Boxer, Patria AMV, and the Namer armored personnel carrier.
