Singapore to Serve as Global Testbed for CFM RISE Open-Fan Engine Technologies

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Airbus and CFM International have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish Singapore as a global testbed for CFM’s RISE technologies.

The agreement was signed at the 3rd Changi Aviation Summit.

Under the initiative, Singapore Changi Airport or Seletar Airport will be used to develop a comprehensive readiness framework for integrating open-fan engines and next-generation aircraft into existing airport operations.

The work will assess impacts across aircraft and engine design, airport infrastructure, operational procedures, safety standards and regulatory processes, with operational trials of RISE Open Fan engine demonstrators planned.

Airbus, a partner in the RISE programme, will contribute its expertise in aircraft design and integration.

Airbus has said Open Fan technology is being studied for its next-generation single-aisle aircraft in the 200-seat class, expected to enter service in the second half of the 2030s, helping ensure alignment between future aircraft designs and airport operational readiness.
