Eurofighter has signed a contract with the NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency to develop test and certify an Aerodynamic Modification Kit (AMK) for the Eurofighter Typhoon aimed at speeding up the integration and certification of new weapons and external loads.
The modification kit is intended to support the integration of future anti-radar missiles used to suppress and destroy enemy air defence radars along with additional air-to-ground weapons air-to-air missiles and later standoff missile variants.
The upgrade includes structural changes to the fuselage strakes flaperons and the wing leading-edge root which are expected to increase maximum wing lift and improve target acquisition and close-range air combat performance.
Development and production will be carried out by Airbus BAE Systems and Leonardo under the Eurofighter partner framework.
Jorge Tamarit-Degenhardt Chief Executive Officer of Eurofighter said, “The AMK will provide a huge boost to our Air Forces during their missions significantly enhancing the integration of air-to-surface configurations and offering greater flexibility in stores carriage while supporting flight performance.”
