Northrop Grumman and the United States Air Force are accelerating production of the B-21 Raider under a mutual agreement to deliver the next-generation stealth bomber to operational units faster than originally planned.
The B-21 program, currently in production with final assembly in Palmdale, California, marks a major step forward in modernizing America’s long-range strike capabilities. The first aircraft is scheduled to arrive at Ellsworth Air Force Base in 2027.
According to Northrop Grumman, multiple B-21 aircraft are currently undergoing ground and flight testing. Company officials say the aircraft have exceeded digital model predictions, demonstrating strong performance and reliability. The Combined Test Force, made up of Northrop Grumman and Air Force personnel, continues to expand testing while improving turnaround times between flights.
The B-21 Raider incorporates advanced low-observable technologies that enable it to penetrate sophisticated air defense systems. The aircraft is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear payloads, providing flexible deterrence options for U.S. decision-makers.
The B-21 also features an open architecture design, allowing for future upgrades in software, sensors and weapons systems.
