BAE Systems said it has received a contract valued over $500 million to produce additional M109A7 Paladin Self-Propelled Howitzers and M992A3 Ammunition Carriers for the U.S. Army.

This contract, awarded in December 2025, will bolster the Army’s ability to meet critical operational requirements, particularly for its Armored Brigade Combat Teams (ABCTs).

The M109A7 Paladin is a 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzer designed with an adaptable chassis and updated system architecture. The platform incorporates a modern digital fire control system, often referred to as a digital backbone, to support fire missions and improve operational responsiveness. It is powered by a 675 hp engine, has a combat weight of approximately 35 to 38 tons, and can reach a top speed of 38 mph (61 km/h). Built on a chassis common with the Bradley platform, the system is operated by a four-person crew and is capable of firing up to four rounds per minute, with a maximum range of 22 to 30 km depending on ammunition.
