Airbus Helicopters has unveiled two next-generation rotorcraft concepts to meet NATO’s Next Generation Rotorcraft Capabilities (NGRC) requirements.
Developed with Collins Aerospace, Raytheon and MBDA, the proposal includes a high-performance conventional helicopter and a high-speed compound rotorcraft designed to improve operational efficiency, affordability and fleet commonality for allied forces.
Central to the proposal is a Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) approach, enabling simplified manufacturing, easier upgrades and shared systems, training and maintenance across both platforms to reduce lifecycle costs and enhance interoperability.
Airbus is also advancing its existing military range, including the NH90 evolution roadmap and platforms such as the H145M, H160M and H225M.
The high-speed concept builds on experience from the Eurocopter X3 and Airbus Racer demonstrators, which validated the performance benefits of compound configurations, including greater speed, extended flight envelope and enhanced maneuverability.
