Some 40 top commanders of the Iranian Armed forces have been killed in intelligence-guided airstrikes all over Iran since Saturday, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) announced today.

In addition, two F5 and F4 fighter jets belonging to the Iranian Air Force have been obliterated in precision bombings that also destroyed runways at the Tabriz airport in Western Iran. “The IDF continues to attack infrastructure of the Iranian terrorist regime in order to harm the regime and thwart threats to the rear of the State of Israel,” the IDF said.

The IDF announced that in addition to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, it also eliminated the Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Minister of Defense, Chairman of the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND), Khamenei’s National Security Advisor, and the Head of Khamenei’s Military Bureau in a coordinated strike Sunday morning on a compound in Tehran. The IDF also confirmed that among those eliminated in the strikes was Abdolrahim Mousavi, who served as Chief of Staff of the armed forces.

Bunker busting bombs that caused huge blast waves lifting cars tens of meters off the ground was seen in the capital Tehran followed by deafening explosions. Offices and residences of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and Quds Force were the target with casualties currently under assessment, as per Iranian media.

China strongly condemns wanton bombing of Iran

The attack and killing of Iran’s supreme leader is a grave violation of Iran’s sovereignty and security. It tramples on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and basic norms in international relations. China firmly opposes and strongly condemns it. We urge for an immediate stop to the military operations, no further escalation of the tense situation and joint effort to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East and the world at large,” Chinese foreign ministry statement.
