Russia Downs Ukrainian Su-27 Fighter Jet

Russia’s Ministry of Defense said its forces shot down a Ukrainian Su-27 fighter jet during combat operations in the Northern Military District.

“The Russian Aerospace Forces shot down a Su-27 aircraft belonging to the Ukrainian Air Force,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry added that Russian air defense units intercepted multiple Ukrainian aerial threats over the past day. It said 241 drones were shot down along with eight guided aerial bombs and three projectiles from the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system.

Since the start of what Russia calls its special military operation in Ukraine, the ministry said Russian forces have destroyed 671 Ukrainian aircraft and 284 helicopters.

The ministry last reported the downing of a Ukrainian Su-27 in early January.

Ukraine has not commented on the latest claim.
