The U.S. Department of State has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Sweden to buy M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and related equipment for an estimated $930 million.
The Government of Sweden has requested to buy twenty (20) M142 high mobility artillery rocket systems; thirty-five (35) M31A2 guided multiple launch rocket system (GMLRS) unitary pods with insensitive munitions propulsion system (IMPS); 35 M30A2 GMLRS alternative warhead pods with IMPS; 35 M403 extended range (ER) GMLRS AW pods with IMPS; 35 M404 ER GMLRS unitary pods with IMPS; 20 M57 army tactical missile system pods; and 24 international field artillery tactical data systems.
The following non-major defense equipment items will also be included: low cost reduced range practice rocket pods; AN/PRC-158 radios; AN/PRC-160 radios; simple key loaders and defense advanced global positioning system receivers.
The proposed sale will improve Sweden’s artillery and mid-range fire capability. The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin, located in Grand Prairie, Texas.
