Bombardier Defense and Korean Air have signed a contract for the supply of two Global 6500 aircraft as part of South Korea’s Electronic Warfare Aircraft Program, worth over $1.1 billion.
An agreement to this effect was signed in Seoul today for the supply of two Global 6500 business jets to be converted into electronic warfare platforms.
The aircraft will be deployed to meet South Korea's Stand-Off Jammer (SOJ) requirements. The new platforms are planned to enter service by 2034.
South Korea's Defense Acquisition Programme (DAPA) approved the "Block I Electronic Warfare System Development Project" in April 2025. A budget of approximately $1.2 billion was allocated for the program until 2034.
The two Global 6500 aircraft for South Korea’s Electronic Warfare (EW) program are in addition to four Global 6500 aircraft for the Korean Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) announced in October 2025.
LIG Nex1, the program's main contractor, won a competitive bidding process that concluded in December 2025. The agreement, which covers the development of electronic warfare aircraft, is reportedly worth over $1.1 billion.
Under the program, Korean Air will purchase two Global 6500s from Bombardier Defense. LIG Nex1 will be responsible for the integration of electronic warfare mission systems and the delivery of the aircraft.
Global 6500-based electronic warfare aircraft will be used to suppress radars, air defense networks, and wireless command and communication systems without entering enemy airspace.
