World leader in simulator technology, CAE is planning to deliver a simulator for the Indian MiG-21M fighter aircraft next year. The simulator is in advanced development at CAE’s facility in Bangalore, India. This will be the first simulator for the MiG-21 aircraft which currently forms the bulk of India’s fighter aircraft fleet and is expected to leapfrog pilot training to an advanced level. A CAE spokesperson said that a Technical Assistance Agreement (TAA) between CAE and its U.S. based supplier of the dome display is needed to complete the simulator project. Once the TAA is in place, CAE would proceed with the rest of the integration. The agreement is expected over the next couple of months, he added. The MiG-21 simulator will be delivered to the Indian Air Force(IAF) station in Gujarat. The simulator will feature a dome display with 330 by 210 degree field-of-view, electric control loading system, and a fully representative cockpit of the MiG-21M fighter aircraft. To meet the military flying training requirements for IAF pilots, the IAF is planning induction of modern trainer aircraft, training aids, flight simulators and introducing new training methods/ techniques, the Chief of Air Staff IAF, Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik, had told defenseworld.net in an earlier interview that introduction of increased and mandatory use of simulators was among the measures being taken to reduce the rate of accidents in the IAF.
