Textron-led Team Announces TAPV CAD Contract To Enhance Field Defense

Textron, Rheinmetall and Kongsberg Protech have announced a $100 million contract for KPS Canada’s work on the Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle or TAPV project, in a statement issued January 28. The sub-contract is part of the $205 million Textron and Rheinmetall CAD contract that was announced earlier in October 2012.

KPS Canada will deliver the Dual Remote Weapon Station or DRWS featuring two mounted weapons, and can be operated by the vehicle commander and gunner. These ensure additional field safety and soldier protection operability from within the vehicle, thus reducing enemy fire exposure.

“The TAPV project participation is of strategic importance to KPS and will strengthen Canadian contribution to the ground based defense industry” said Jørn Buø, its President. Dr. Andreas Knackstedt, President Rheinmetall Canada also added, “Together with delivering state-of-the-art Army equipment, the development will also create highly skilled jobs in Canada”.

Prime contractor Textron Canada, will provide overall TAPV program and configuration management, act as the change management design authority, coordinate Canadian sub-contractors’ vehicle integration activities and manage the ISS contract.

The TAPV is a technologically advanced armored vehicle that provides forces with optimal balance of survivability, mobility and versatility, while delivering exceptional performance in the world’s most challenging environments.

The Textron TAPV Team, were previously selected to manufacture 500 Canadian TAPV’s in June 2012, with options for up to 100 more. Valued at $601.9 million, there was an additional five-year in-service support contract for $105 million.
