Exelis has won a contract valued at more than $76 million to provide mobile ground control approach capabilities to the Polish Air Force, Navy and Land Forces.
This program will bring the number of Exelis radars in Poland to 14 as the company continues to extend its leadership in the growing field of intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and analytics.
The Exelis GCA-2020 will provide Poland with the high-performance air navigation services required to meet demanding ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) and NATO flight safety standards. The solution provides a “ready-now,” solid-state, electronically scanning radar that offers primary surveillance, secondary surveillance and precision approach in a single integrated unit.
The new GCA contract expands Poland’s existing global compatibility, providing standardization across all branches of Poland’s armed forces and its NATO allies. The agreement with Poland is another major step in Exelis international growth strategy. When combined with recent orders from Sweden and Estonia, Exelis will deliver 11 new GCA units to European customers beginning in 2014.
“The Exelis GCA combines advanced features with mobility to offer our Polish customers an agile, rapidly deployable air traffic management capability,” said Dave Prater, Exelis vice president and general manager of the radar, reconnaissance and undersea systems business. “The integration of cutting-edge technology, compatibility and value that we offer our customers has reinforced our leadership and expanded our footprint in the critical network of global air transportation.”
