Thales announced at LIMA 2015 that it has delivered the first of two further Airborne Maritime Situation and Control System (AMASCOS) mission systems to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).

The systems will help by converting four Beechcraft B200 King Air aircraft into more capable maritime surveillance platforms, with delivery due next year, Shephard media reported on Monday.

The same modular AMASCOS system is fitted on three Indonesian Navy CN235-220 maritime patrol aircraft, one of which was on display at LIMA 2015.

The system allows the Indonesian aircraft to perform anti-surface warfare and anti-submarine warfare missions. These aircraft also feature Thales Ocean Master 400 radar and Totem 3000 inertial reference system.

As typified by the above delivery to the RMAF, Thales is focusing on the naval and air defence sectors in the Southeast Asia region, according to Marie-Laure Bourgeois, managing director and vice president, South and Southeast Asia.

Thales is looking at regional ship and submarine systems, as well as maritime surveillance. An example is the Thales Nederland SMART-S Mk2 3D multi-beam radar that has been selected for the Royal Malaysian Navy’s six Second-Generation Patrol Vessel-Littoral Combat Ships (SGPV-LCS).
